sweet potato paws dog treats
treat your dog like one of the family with this healthy dog treat recipe
2-3 sweet potatoes
1 tart & crisp apple (we like Honey Crisp), shredded
3 cups flour (we used nut flour, but you can use wheat too)
A few dashes of cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 F (this is just for the potatos!)
Cut the potatoes in half and place them cut side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment (for easy clean up!). Bake at 400 F for 40 minutes until they are soft. Cool completely and peel the skin off. Mash the sweet potatoes with a fork and use 3 cups for this recipe.
Reduce the oven temperature to 375 F
Combine mashed sweet potatoes, shredded apple, eggs, flour and dash of cinnamon in a bowl. Mix ingredients well until a dough comes together. These can be sticky so add flour as needed to make the dough soft and pliable. We rolled ours out with a roller and used cookie cutters, but the more simple route may be to just form shapes with your hands. The key is to keep the thickness consistent and edges smooth so that they bake evenly.
Place on a baking sheet and bake at 375 F for 25-30 minutes until slightly brown. The time may vary based upon the size of the treats, so watch closely.
Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before your pup enjoys their tasty treat!
We suggest to store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
